The Reasons People Use Cremation

Blog

Part of the process of funeral planning is deciding what you want to happen with your body. With over 50% of funerals using cremation, you may be wondering why people find this method just as appealing as a traditional burial. Here are some of the reasons people choose cremation over other options.

The Cost

When you actually sit down and plan out your funeral, you may discover that it can be quite expensive. You may not want to burden your family with a traditional burial if you know it will cost them more money. Cremation does allow people to save money on the funeral since the burial process makes up a large part of the expenses. Paying a mortician to embalm the body and make the body look good for a viewing is something that is not necessary with cremation. In addition, you do not need to spend money on a large casket or burial plot, since an urn is much more affordable.

The Memorial Ceremony

One part of cremation that is appealing to others is how they can be used for a memorial ceremony. You may have a wish for your ashes to be spread somewhere that is memorable and meaningful to you, or you may wish your ashes be put into an urn that is kept by a loved one. Cremation gives you the flexibility of being able to do any of these things, while a burial has very strict protocols with needing to use a cemetery.

The Religious Requirements

Your religion can play a big role in if cremation will be allowed. Some religions, such as Hinduism, actually require cremation as a way to treat the body after passing away. Meanwhile, some religions like Islam actually forbid cremation. Christianity is becoming more accepting of cremation over time. In general, your religious beliefs can play a big role in if you will use cremation.

The Personal Beliefs

Some people simply do not like traditional burials because of the overall concept of it. They don't like the idea of having their body buried underground in a box to rot away. This makes cremation seem like a much more appealing method because they feel the body is treated in a more respectful way instead of decomposing in a box underground.

Understanding The Funeral Planning Process

Hi everyone, my name is Sari Blakenship. My first time visiting a funeral home was an extremely comforting experience. Although I was blindsided by the death of my loved one, the funeral director helped me through the planning process without taking advantage of my grief. I was allowed to work at my own pace to cope with the grief in a healthy way. I was never rushed or pressured, despite the necessary timeline. Whenever I couldn't move forward, the funeral director held my hand and offered words of comfort. I would like to share each step of the funeral planning process to help others through this difficult process. Planning a funeral takes a lot of thought and time during a particularly difficult period. Please visit whenever you need a hand.
